This manual has been prepared for nurses and doctors who want to provide better care to pregnant women and their newborn infants in clinics and hospitals.
The five units introduce kinder, gentler, evidence based methods of care for the mother during pregnancy, labour, delivery and for the newborn infant.
The mother is encouraged to enjoy and play an active role in her pregnancy and delivery while the advantages of keeping mothers and infants together, kangaroo mother care, exclusive breastfeeding and modern nursery practices are stressed.
